Community Champion (Arabic and English speaking)

We are recruiting two part-time Community Champions for a fixed term contract until 3rd June 2022. 

1 male community champion 17.5 hours per week, monthly salary £1083.
1 female community champion 17.5 hours per week, monthly salary £1083. 

The post holders will play a vital part in driving forward and disseminating existing and developing public health communication strategies specifically (but not exclusively) to member of Liverpool Arabic speaking communities who have been disproportionately impacted by Covid 19.  You will work collaboratively with Community Champions based in partner organisations and you will be required to report directly to Liverpool Arabic Centre manager and the Community Champions Coordinator.

Provide confidential (bi-lingual Arabic and English) one to one support and advocacy for people from local communities.  Reaching and engaging with local communities through regular street level engagement- at the front door, shops and businesses. Build and maintain local partnership support to develop service reach and to provide drop-in support at local partnership venues.  Regular online engagement- on mutual aid and community Facebook groups and relevant social platforms.  Identifying, supporting and bolstering the positive work that the community, local leaders and informal champions already do.  The post holder will be required to work evenings and weekends in response to local need.

Volunteer Opportunities

The Liverpool Arabic Centre is pleased to announce the launch of Aden Narratives Documentary Digital Inclusion project, aimed to build on the successful cross-cultural relationships achieved during the production of Aden Narratives documentaries and looking for the following:

  • Ex-Service Personnel, Veterans and British Yemenis from across the UK and can offer a few hours each month 
  • Who are great writers and would like to help create content for our Aden Narratives Newsletter.
  •  Who would like to share their stories of family experiences of Aden Yemen.
  • Who love research and history and have a particular interest in the British Military and Aden. 
  • Who have a keen interest in digital projects and have existing skills or would like to develop skills. 
  • Who are great communicators (In English and/or Arabic) and would like to be involved interviewing and/or presenting stories for our digital online programme and newsletter.
  • Who have a keen interest in marketing and can support us in sharing our project events and activities.

* Shopping deliveries of food or other essentials.

* Collecting and delivering prescriptions.

* Information about what services are available in your area.

* Help on getting online and using things like Skype/Zoom to talk to friends and relatives.

* Directing to appropriate support.

* Provide info, advice, health and wellbeing support over the phone.

* Emotional and social well being support where possible.

* Bilingual support (English/Arabic)

GCSE Homework Support Programme for Year 11

The Liverpool Arabic Centre Supplementary School in collaboration with the University of Liverpool deliver a Saturday programme of GCSE mentoring lessons in English, Maths and Science throughout the year. Sessions usually run on a Saturday morning from 10.30am to 1.30pm over a six week period. Attendance for all sessions is compulsory.
